The Madrid public transport pass costs between 32.70 and 79 euros per month in 2026 for an adult aged 26 to 64, depending on the zone: 32.70 euros in zone A, 38.20 in B1, 43.20 in B2 and 49.20 in zones B3, C1 and C2. The Youth Pass, for 15 to 25 year olds, costs 10 euros in any zone. Seniors over 65 and those under 15 travel for free. These are the prices published by the Regional Transport Consortium in the BOCM on December 31, 2025, and which remain in effect in October 2026.
Those amounts already include a 40% discount % for adults and a 50% discount % for young people, and the discount is valid until December 31, 2026. Below you have the complete table by zone, prices for large families and people with disabilities, when the discount offsets the 10-trip voucher and how to get or top up the card.
Price of the 30-day zone pass in 2026
The 30-day pass allows you to travel without limit for 30 days on all the transport services in the area of your choice: Metro, EMT, Cercanías, light metros and urban and interurban buses. The price depends solely on the area and your profile. These are the amounts set by the Consortium as published in the BOCM No. 311 of December 31, 2025, applicable from January 1, 2026.
| Zone | Ordinary (26 to 64 years old) | General large family or disability ≥ 65 % | Special large family |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 32,70 € | 26,10 € | 16,30 € |
| B1 | 38,20 € | 30,50 € | 19,00 € |
| B2 | 43,20 € | 34,50 € | 21,60 € |
| B3 | 49,20 € | 39,30 € | 24,60 € |
| C1 | 49,20 € | 39,30 € | 24,60 € |
| C2 | 49,20 € | 39,30 € | 24,60 € |
| E1 | 66,30 € | 53,00 € | 33,10 € |
| E2 | 79,00 € | 63,20 € | 39,50 € |
Take a look at a detail that many people overlook: B3, C1 and C2 cost the same, 49.20 euros. The Consortium itself reminds of this in its ticket information. If you live in a B3 municipality but occasionally travel on the C2, simply load the C2. It costs the same and covers you more.
Zones E1 and E2 are the farthest areas from the system, and therefore the most expensive. If you don't know which zone your municipality is in, the Consorcio's tariff zones finder will tell you at the moment.
Interzone passes, for those who don't live in Madrid capital
If your daily commute does not fall into Zone A because you live and work in municipalities in the metropolitan area without passing through the capital, you do not need to pay the pass that includes the capital. There are interzone passes that cover two crowns without Zone A, and they are cheaper. The most economical one, which covers B1-B2, B2-B3, C1-C2 and other pairs of adjacent zones, costs 28.70 euros. The most expensive one, B1-E2, costs 53.70 euros.
An example with numbers: if you live in locality B2 and work in another locality B3 without visiting Madrid, the B2-B3 pass costs 28.70 euros, compared to 49.20 for the B3 pass, which would also require you to pay for coverage for the area A that you don't use. That's a 20.50 euros difference per month, 246 euros in a year.
Joven Subsidy and discounts based on age
Young people aged 15 to 25 pay 10 euros per month with the Youth Pass, valid in all areas from A to E2. Minors under 15 and over 65 have free passes. These are the age-based rates that the Consortium maintains in 2026 and that apply independently: the machine or app detects your age from the card and offers you the corresponding title.
| Age | Title | Price 2026 | Areas covered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 6 years | Child card and pass (from 4 to 6 years old) | Free | A to C2 |
| 7 to 14 years | Fertilizer 7-14 | Free | A to C2 |
| 15 to 25 years | Joven Fertilizer | 10 € | A to E2 (not valid for internal travel within Castilla-La Mancha) |
| 26 to 64 years old | Fertilizer 30 days | From 28.70 to 79 € | The zone or interzone you choose |
| 65 years or older | Fertilizer +65 (365 days) | Free | A to C2 |
The Youth Subscription can be used until the day you turn 26. And if you complete it with a half-year subscription, the Consortium lets you finish that period without paying a difference. The next renewal will cost you the normal price. The same applies when you turn 65: you finish the subscription you have and the next time they’ll offer you the +65.
With the Youth Pass, there are even cheaper variants for large families or people with disabilities equal to or greater than 65 %: 8 euros for a general large family or disability, 5 euros for a special large family.
Subsidized +65, free but with a zone limit
The +65 subscription lasts 365 days and costs nothing, but it only covers the C2 area. If you live in a municipality E1 or E2, your trips in those areas are not included. To renew it, you can recharge from 10 days before it expires, and the new charge is activated when the previous one runs out.
If you had an annual company senior discount and you retire, they can change it to the +65 at a convenience store without needing to get a new card.
Large family and disability: how much can be saved
With the general family card, or with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 65 %, the fee is 20 euros % less than the regular rate: 26.10 euros in zone A. With the special family card, you pay approximately half that amount: 16.30 euros in zone A. If you combine the two conditions, the price drops even further.
The official table combinations for Zone A are as follows: general large family with disability, 19.60 euros, and special large family with disability, 9.70 euros. The discount must be recorded on your card. If the large family card expires halfway through a subscription, you can use up that subscription, but you will have to update it at a management office before the next recharge, on the spot and at no cost.
A practical case. A large family living in Zone A, with two adults aged 40 and a daughter aged 19. The two adult passes add up to 52.20 euros (26.10 each) and the daughter pays 8 euros with the Large Family Pass. Total, 60.20 euros per month for three people with unlimited transportation.
10-trip voucher or subscription, when each one is worth it
In zone A, the subscription covers up to about 45 trips in 30 days. The 10-trip ticket for Metro zone A, EMT, and Metro Ligero 1 costs 7.30 euros in 2026, that is, 0.73 euros per trip. Dividing the 32.70 euros of the subscription by 0.73 gives you almost 45 trips for the subscription to pay off.
Translated to real life: if you go and return from work five days a week, you make about 40 to 44 trips a month. You are right on the border. If you also use public transport on weekends or for errands during the week, the pass will cost you nothing. If you work from home two days a week, keep the 10-trip bonus.
Other 2026 prices that you should keep handy:
- Simple EMT bus ticket: 1.50 euros.
- Single Metro ticket for Zone A: from 1.50 to 2 euros depending on the route.
- 10-trip combined ticket (Metro, TFM and light metros): 10.90 euros.
- Airport surcharge on the Metro: 3 euros. You have all the ways to get there in the guide How to get to Madrid Barajas Airport.
- EMT Airport Express Line: 5 euros. The Consortium explicitly excludes it from the services for which the ticket is valid.
Single and tourist tickets are excluded from the discounts for 2026, according to the same resolution of the Consortium.
The annual subscription, for those who are clear about it from January
The annual subscription costs ten times that of the 30-day subscription in your area, according to the BOCM: 327 euros in Zone A. Compared to twelve monthly subscriptions (392.40 euros), you save 65.40 euros. The BOCM links it to a validity from January 1st, so in October it doesn't make sense to consider it for this year. If you're interested in 2027, wait until next year's pricing is published, because they may change.
How long do the discounts last and what could happen in 2027
The reduced prices are guaranteed until December 31, 2026. The reduction is financed by the aid provided by Royal Decree-Law 17/2025, which the State approved for the entire year 2026, and by funds from the Community of Madrid and the municipalities, which complement the discount to 40% % for adults.
As of October 25, 2026, there has not yet been a decision on the 2027 prices published. The prices for this year were approved on December 29, 2025, two days before the year ended, so the news is most likely to arrive late as well. Until then, the prices on this page will apply to all refills you make in 2026.
How to get the personal transport card
All passes are charged to the Personal Public Transport Card, which has your name and photo and costs 4 euros the first time. You can order it online and it arrives at your home, or you can get it at a Consorcio management office with an appointment, where they take your photo and give it to you on the spot.
What you need, according to the frequently asked questions Tickets and fares of the Consortium:
- DNI, passport or residence permit.
- Certificate or registration card in the Community of Madrid or in one of the municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León included. If you are registered in the region, you can authorize them to consult it. If you are not yet registered, you have the steps in our guide registering in Madrid.
- A recent color photo in card size, only if you request it online.
- The large family card or the disability certificate, if you are entitled to a discount.
- For minors under 14 years of age without a DNI, authorization from the parents, the family book, and the DNI of the father or mother.
The appointment must be requested on the Consortium's website or by calling 012 (91 580 42 60 from outside Madrid). It is mandatory for the first card. If you requested it online and it hasn't arrived within a week, you can go to an administration office with your document and the proof of application.
And what if you lose it? The duplicate for theft or loss costs 6 euros. In a management office, they block the lost card and issue you another one with the titles you had, within up to five working days.
Where to recharge the subscription and when it starts to count
The card is recharged at the Metro, Cercanías and Metro Ligero Oeste machines, at affiliated kiosks and shops, at the information points of the interchange stations and in the apps of the «Tarjeta Transporte» Consortium and «Mi Tarjeta Transporte». The latter, only for Android, also allows you to convert your personal card into a virtual card and validate it with your mobile phone.
The 30 days start from the first time you validate, not from the recharge. But be aware of this nuance: if you don’t use it within the 10 days following its recharge, the period starts on the 10th day anyway. In practice, the subscription expires no sooner than 40 days after the recharge. Don’t recharge it two weeks in advance if you’re going on vacation.
To check how many days you have left or what titles you have loaded, we explain here How to check the balance of the transport card in Madrid from mobile phones, in machines or in the convenience store.
Changing zones in the middle of the month
If you move or change jobs, you can switch to a more expensive zone by paying the difference between the two full fares, no matter how many days you have spent. For example, from zone A to zone B1, it costs 5.50 euros. The change is made at machines, ticket offices, exchange offices and offices, but not in the «Transport Card» app. For two interzonal transfers of the same price, the change is free.
Errors that make transportation more expensive without you even realizing it
- Using the A zone pass on an interurban bus. It doesn't work, even if the entire journey takes place within the A zone. You'll have to pay for a ticket.
- Charging a B3 or a C1 when you sometimes go for a C2. For the same money you have the C2.
- Paying a zone A ticket when your daily route does not pass through Madrid capital. See the interzonals.
- Charging too soon and losing days due to the 10-day rule.
- Do not update the card with the renewed extended family card. You will pay the standard fee until you do so.
