Do you want to get to know one of the biggest cultural events in Madrid? Well, keep reading because we're going to tell you all about what's on offer at the billboard of the Teatros del Canal. A performing arts centre that, after only 10 years of existence, has conquered the audiences of Madrid.
What are the Teatros del Canal?
It is much more than a gamble on the stage. Since 2009, the best theatre, music, ballet, dance, circus and cabaret companies from all over the world have been taking to the stage in its halls.
The Canal Theatres is located in a modern building of 35,200 metres in the Chamberí district, between the streets of Juan Bravo and Cea Bermúdez. It was born as a commitment to contemporary art, to technical and artistic quality. But in addition, in the same building where the plays are projected, the theatre houses several music and dance rehearsal rooms.
Leading this magnificent project are Natalia Álvarez and Álex Rigola, as the artistic directors. They are in charge of putting on the annual programme, which includes theatre, in its classical and modern versions, opera, dance, flamenco, zarzuela, circus, children's performances and concerts of different styles of music.
The complex is divided into three halls: Sala Roja, Sala Verde, Sala Negra and the Centro Danza de Canal. It also has a cafeteria and a terrace where you can have a drink.

Red Room
It is named after the colour of its seats. It is the largest, with a capacity of 843 seats. It has excellent acoustics and lighting system and is designed to enjoy the stage from any point in the hall. Its most outstanding feature is its hydraulic platform, This can be used to extend the stage, increase the seating capacity of the stalls or create an orchestra pit on the lower level. This is the Red Room's programme for this season.
Green Room
This is Canal's multi-purpose hall, i.e. it can be adapted to suit the performance. Either with an audience on the sides of the hall, on all four sides, or with the usual seating capacity of 444 seats. It is conceived as an experimental hall, where the predominant colours are green and brick. The maximum capacity is 778 seats. You can find the full programme here.
Black Room
This is the latest venue to join the Canal space. It is the smallest of the three, with 180 seats, and comes to complete the cultural offer of the centre.. All the programme here.
Canal Dance Centre
It was created as a space dedicated to the creation, promotion and dissemination of dance and the arts of movement. The Canal Dance Centre, CDC, hosts Víctor Ullate's resident company and others, intermittently, thanks to a programme of temporary artistic residencies. Its three premises are:
- Support for Creation
- Mediation
- Space for reflection
