There is a growing awareness of pollution and contamination issues in big cities. This is a reality. The disastrous impact of traffic in Madrid makes us think that we need to change our habits when moving around the city. There are many alternatives such as using public transport, cycling or walking. But perhaps the most innovative one is the rise of the service carsharing<\/strong> or eco-friendly car sharing. Electric vehicles have landed in the capital offering an alternative to decongest traffic and avoid CO2 emissions. We are seeing more and more ecological cars circulating on the streets with friendly colours that remind us that a less polluted city is possible. Moreover, thanks to these electric cars, drivers do not have to pay in the green and blue zones in the city and can drive without problems when restrictions are imposed due to high pollution levels.<\/p>\n

There are currently 4 fully electric car sharing services in Madrid<\/strong>. We tell you about their main features and how each one works.<\/p>\n

CAR2GO<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It arrived in the capital in the first place ready to become the pioneering green vehicle in Spain. Madrid became the first Spanish city with a public electric car rental service by the minute.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the Daimler company, these white and blue Smart cars landed here in October 2008. A service that was already operating successfully in several German cities. The initial idea was to be able to get to work by sharing transport. From there it moved on to the electric car and what we know today as car2go. In our city there is a fleet of more than 500 cars. And it is increasingly positioning itself as an alternative to public transport and car ownership.<\/p>\n

The first problem the company encountered was the very few charging points in Madrid. So the company itself set about installing them.<\/p>\n

How it works <\/strong><\/h3>\n

It is very simple. First of all, you have to register on their website. You can do this by downloading the application on your mobile phone. You have to fill in your personal details and the payment method. First of all, you have to scan your driving licence through the application to validate it.<\/p>\n

Once registered, you can control the entire car2go service via your mobile phone. On a map that you can access, you can check the availability of cars in real time and reserve your Smart. Once you are in front of your car, you can open it and start it just by entering your PIN and start driving, it's that easy! You can drive anywhere in Madrid with your electric car.<\/p>\n

Parking<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When you want to leave your car, just check the app to see which areas are available; there is an exclusive, free car park in the centre for the car2go service, near the Tribunal metro station (at Calle Farmacia No. 12) with 10 spaces available. Private and corporate parking is prohibited. When you want or need to take a break, just leave your car2go in any public parking space, whether blue or green zone, and don't worry about getting a ticket.<\/p>\n

Charge<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The company's assistance team is in charge of recharging your car. So you don't have to worry about anything when you start driving around town. You may be interested to know that these Smart cars have a range of 120 km. It has a built-in GPS that shows the battery level and when it needs to be recharged from the mains.<\/p>\n

Prices<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In this service you pay per minute or per day. Parking, charging and insurance costs are already included in the price. The rates are:<\/p>\n

. 0,21\u20ac per minute. A service that helps you when you need a car for short and very punctual journeys.<\/p>\n

EMOV SERVICE<\/strong><\/h2>\n

These are the white and purple Citroen-Zero cars that we find in the capital. It has 4 seats and to rent it is as easy as the competition. All you have to do is register on their website and download the App to your mobile, either Android or IOS. This carsharing service offers its customers a welcome offer of 20 minutes free driving time. Once you have signed up, the following steps are all you need to complete on line: <\/em>from booking your car, opening the door and starting it up... ready to hit the tarmac!<\/p>\n

Parking<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The rules are similar to the other electric services in Madrid. You are allowed to park these cars in the green and blue zones in the city centre, but you can only stop, and you cannot leave the car in these spaces once you have finished renting it. You can also use the APR zones, which are the neighbourhood of Las Cortes, Embajadores, Las Letras or the \u00d3pera neighbourhood. And you should know that you cannot park in private garages, even if you pay for it, in loading and unloading areas and, of course, in areas designated for the disabled, embassies, consulates, etc.<\/p>\n

Prices<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To register you have to pay 9 euros which includes 20 minutes of free driving. Your rates are per minute or per day. And it includes parking, electricity and insurance.<\/p>\n

ELECTRIC WAY<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I'm sure you've come across these cute little two-seaters on the streets of Madrid. They are Renault's electric Twizys. To get into one of them, all you have to do is book them by the hour. Their slogan is \u201cpay only when you need to\u201d.\u201d<\/em>. Electric Way wants to make it easier for drivers who need such a vehicle only on sporadic occasions, either for work or for short journeys around the capital.<\/p>\n

Twizys features<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To book this vehicle is the same as in the rest of the rental services, it is done on the company's website. The only important thing to know is that the minimum age to drive this car is 22 years old and you must have a valid Spanish driving license.<\/p>\n

The Twizy has a range of 80 km, without the need to recharge. And it can reach a maximum of 80 km per hour.<\/p>\n

Prices<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Please note that a security deposit of 350 euros must be paid in advance. The breakdown of prices is as follows:<\/p>\n

The big advantage is its size. So finding a parking space won't be a problem. It looks somewhere between a car and a motorbike. You can leave it parked in the green and blue areas marked on the streets of the capital. When you no longer need it, you must return it to the same station where you picked it up.<\/p>\n

MADRID ZITY<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The vehicles offered by this rental service are of the following brands Renault ZOE<\/strong>, They are more spacious than their competitors: they have 5 seats and a large boot. They are the latest electric cars to be launched on the Madrid market, about six months ago. To enjoy this ecological car, all you have to do is register on the App from your mobile device, reserve your Zity and you can drive it without having to carry your keys with you.<\/p>\n

Features<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This car-sharing service reaches the areas with the greatest commercial and business activity, such as the Campo de las Naciones fairgrounds or the Las Tablas neighbourhood with many companies and businesses. They are also pioneers in accessing Madrid-Barajas airport itself. In addition to the M30, San Chinarro, Hortaleza and Ciudad Lineal are the districts where you can move around. Their vehicles offer greater autonomy than any other currently operating in Madrid: 400 km without the need to recharge.<\/p>\n

Prices<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This rental service does not require a deposit from its customers. It has 3 price options, depending on the driver's needs. And the novelty is what they call STAND BY. A special rate when you get out of the car and take a break in your journey inside or outside the Zity zone. For example, if you are driving and you have to make a stop to do some shopping or you want to get out for a drink or go to the cinema. During that time you activate in your App the option park<\/em> and when you resume your journey, you press the button continue, <\/em>It's as simple as that.<\/p>\n
